This comic isn’t one of SMBC’s trademark nerdy jokes. Instead it’s basically an illustration of the argument made by Dr. Stuart Ritchie in his recent book Science Fictions. It’s basically about the replication crisis in science, with a focus on the causes, and of the general shortcomings in the contemporary science research “industry”. It’s a very nice summary of both the problem, the reasons for the problem, and some potential solutions.

[] Threats made against Woolwich church that ignored COVID-19 lockdown
I can’t believe this needs to be said, but while it’s certainly true that churches that are defying public health orders and risking the spread of a deadly disease are reprehensible and certainly worthy of disdain and criticism, threatening the church or its members—even “indirectly”—is utterly unacceptable. There is no evidence that the people threatening the church are members of the atheist community (and, indeed, past evidence and demographics makes that somewhat unlikely)… but just in case, I want to make sure we’re all on the same page here. I am just as furious about these super-spreader churches as, no doubt, many of you are. And I certainly want to see them strictly sanctioned—they should at least be fined, and I would like to see them lose their tax-exempt status permanently, and I would like to see the leaders of these churches barred via a court injunction from being allowed to form tax-exempt religious groups in the future and possibly also barred from leading services of more than a dozen or so people. But threatening them is not acceptable, and especially threatening them with violence. If you know who is doing this, then report them to the authorities. And if you are the one doing this, then turn yourself in, and stop reading Canadian Atheist; we want nothing to do with that kind of people.

Okay, this one is a bit silly, but it’s worth a small chuckle, and these days, we could really use that. I don’t want to spoil it, but I just love the double entendre in the title.

[] Racist attack in Saskatoon marred anniversary of Quebec mosque shooting
This is one of two items this week about “Zoom bombings”; basically, if you can get your hands on the secret code for a Zoom meeting—whether because it’s been made public so that anyone can join, or because someone on the inside leaks it—you can sometimes sneak in and join it, and then at the very least use an offensive image/video as your display (what everyone sees as your “camera feed”)… and if the meeting organizer allows attendees to contribute, you can go further and actually inject offensive content right into the discussion and disrupt it. That’s basically what happened here (and in the later item, too). Let’s be crystal clear about what happened here: this was not in any sense rational criticism of Islam. Whatever your feelings are about Islam, that’s completely irrelevant here. Screaming slurs and flashing hate symbols at people trying to remember a mass murder is nothing more that straight-up irrational intolerance. No, this is not “understandable”, and no, they absolutely did not “have it coming”. Even if this weren’t a memorial for a national tragedy, hurling slurs and insults at people merely for showing compassion to Muslims is simply ignorance and hatred.

[] Queen’s University lecture hacked by ‘Zoom bombers’
Ugh, this is disgusting. First off, I should note that Kathryn Lofton is a fascinating researcher whom I really want to read more from. She has an interesting take on secular entertainment (the talk title mentions Kanye West) and its relation to religious inclinations and impulses. For example, I’ve heard her noting that younger people have generally replaced going to church on weekends with binge-watching stuff on streaming services, and speculating on what that might mean—like, what human needs that were once satisfied by church services are now being satisfied by Netflix binges? Is it an escape into an imaginary world with drama and excitement that religion once provided, but now can be found in secular cinematic universes? Those are really cool questions, with interesting consequences for our understanding of secular media and entertainment. I don’t understand why people would want to shut down one of her talks; was it just a random target of opportunity because the Zoom code for her presentation got leaked to the wrong place, or was there some reason why she was specifically targeted?

[] ‘My mind was blown’: Kingsville couple fined $880 for Pokemon GO outing amid stay-at-home order
At first blush this doesn’t look like a story that fits with Canadian Atheist’s mandate. But look a little closer. The couple was out playing Pokémon Go in their car when they got caught by a cop and dinged for violating the province’s stay-at-home order. But where did they get caught, exactly? In the parking lot of a church. Now, why was that where they happened to get noticed? Well, it could have just been a random fluke: a bored OPP officer happened to be parked nearby doing paperwork, and figured the other car in the lot might be an easy bust. That could be all there is to it, sure. But if this were the parking lot of, say, a restaurant, or a retail store, then it seems less likely that a car that pulled in would be suspicious: they could just be parked there waiting for a pick-up order to come out, or they could just be checking a list or something in preparation to go in and make an order. The fact that the cop tagged them as suspicious in a church parking lot could be a sign that authorities are watching churches for lockdown violations more closely.

IN REGARDS TO COVID-19:
Fundamentally what the following analysis boils down to is who you believe. The layman has no real ability to determine the scientific or medical truth about this covid-19 coronavirus. This is why public trust is so important to the professions in a democracy, especially the medical profession.
Eventually the real truth about covid-19 will be when a majority consensus forms about whose story to believe about it. My goal is merely to offer the reader an alternative to the mainstream narrative that everyone is being saturated with, so that you can objectively decide for yourself what the truth really is. I’m sure you can well imagine how many hours it has taken me to compile the list that follows of alternative news sources about this ‘pandemic’. I am retired with 24/7 access to the internet and nothing better to do with my time especially since I have been barred from leaving this property for the best part of a year now. Very few other people in the world have even a fraction of the time available to do what I have done, so they simply are forced to BELIEVE what the mainstream media is telling them.
I am writing this not because I want to, but because I think I must. Just like every part in an engine, big and small, slow and fast, must do its part correctly for the engine to function, every person must do their part correctly for human society to function. Therefore as a part of society, I feel it is my duty to write the following.
I believe the more people know the TRUTH about the current ‘plandemic, scamdemic, condemic’ the better. Politicians and the mainstream media have been doing their level best for the last year terrorizing us into believing their sadistic, criminal lies about covid-19. In fact 2020 was typical for respiratory virus mortality, this coronavirus is a typical respiratory cold virus which usually occur near the end of the flu season (this according to Judy Mikovits, look her up online if you don’t know who she is).
In my opinion the real news story of 2020 is not covid-19, it is what I call ‘censorship lite’ being introduced into the western world. Things like the threat of arbitrary detention without, in most cases, actually taking action if you should dare to disobey the ‘authorities’ edicts. Deletion of videos from mainstream social media if they oppose the ‘official’ narrative about covid-19, while still allowing ‘alternative’ media sites to show them. Warnings on mainstream social media videos that do not support the mainstream narrative, rather than automatic re-direction of the viewer to officially approved content only. The true goal of the coronavirus cabal is that eventually you won’t know where the edict is coming from or even why, you simply will know to obey since you have learned to understand that the consequences of disobedience will be absolute and final. The type of heavy handed censorship of every aspect of life in China today is much closer to this ultimate goal of the criminal globalist coronavirus cabal.
In spite of the best efforts of governments and social media along with the mainstream media to censor the truth, with a little common sense and some extra effort the many heroes in society telling the truth about covid-19 can be heard. Below I will list a number of sites you can (still at the time of writing) access online if you really want to know what covid-19 is and why it was the excuse an international criminal cabal used to lockdown the people of the world.
But first, who is this world wide criminal cabal and what are their motives? An obvious suspect is Bill Gates, but since he is so obvious I strongly suspect there is a much deeper and darker level to this coronavirus vaccination conspiracy. If you are one of the many people in this world who are not familiar with the Bill Gates story I can certainly understand why this will not be obvious to you. Briefly the reason why Bill Gates, the multi-billionaire, is so important to understanding covid-19 is his irrational enthusiasm for vaccines.
99.999…% of the people in the world rightfully assume that the WHO (World Health Organization) is a part of the United Nations and therefore 100% of its funding comes from UN member states. In fact in the recent past the second biggest donor to WHO after the United States government was the ‘Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’, and the third biggest donor was GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization) another charitable organization partly funded by Bill Gates. This means that one private individual, with no medical training or public accountability can effectively dictate to the people of the world what HE wants them to believe is healthy. If he decides 7 billion people in the world should receive a covid-19 vaccination for whatever entirely personal reasons, who can tell him otherwise? I ask you, what is the real reason that he insists that there can be no return to normal until everyone in the world has been vaccinated for covid-19? If you make the mistake of believing what this completely unqualified individual tells you, you can only thank yourself for what happens to you.
Probably the most significant feature of the last 40 years has been the rise of China since the death of Mao in 1976. Most people who shop at Walmart, and most people do, have been noticing for years that just about everything they buy there is made in China. They probably think the Chinese long ago gave up communism and joined the world. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In fact the best historical equivalent to the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) is probably Nazi Germany. Just like Hitler had his ‘Brown Shirts’, thugs who swore their loyalty to him, the CCP has the PLA (Peoples Liberation Army) who swear an oath of loyalty, not to China or the Chinese people, but rather to the CCP. The CCP has about 90 million members out of a total Chinese population of about 1.3 billion people. The difference between Hitler and the CCP is the PLA has intercontinental nuclear armed ballistic missiles which can strike North America, nuclear armed submarines, aircraft carriers, stealth bombers, etc., etc. Since the death of Mao the Chinese Communist Party has infiltrated and co-opted every aspect of western liberal democracy. The CCP will never rest until they are satisfied that the ‘Century of Humiliation’ inflicted on China by the west from 1839 to 1949, when the CCP came to power in China, has been revenged. As of 2020 the United States is no longer the only Superpower in the world, it now has a rival, and the world recognizes that China is that rival. I consider the CCP an international criminal organization and the PLA are its enforcers, to treat them like a legitimate government of a nation is a grave mistake which can only lead to disaster if this misunderstanding is not soon corrected. They have the people of China enslaved today, and tomorrow they want it to be the whole world.
I do not think it is any coincidence that 2020 was an election year in America, that Donald Trump was standing for re-election and that the coronavirus ‘plandemic’ started in Wuhan China at the beginning of that year. The response of the CCP to coronavirus was a DELIBERATE ACT to terrorize the world into believing that it actually was a new (novel) terribly deadly disease while knowing full well all the time that it was actually no more dangerous than any other normal seasonal flu virus. Of course the CCP’s proxies in the west immediately understood that they were to ape the panic and lockdown scenario perpetrated in China so as to destroy Donald Trump’s re-election effort among other goals. I believe the CCP was the true instigator of the ‘panicdemic’, but to what extent Bill Gates and his globalist pals were involved directly with the CCP rather than just seizing the opportunity presented by them to exploit for their own purposes, I can only guess.
As you will see if you investigate the internet sites I describe below it is the combination of the CCP’s proxies in the west from the government, educational, media and business elites, along with the WHO and other international bodies who have tried to convince the world coronavirus is a real new disease worthy of being called a global pandemic.
