Heads up, Canadian Atheist readers!

by | August 16, 2021

For many years now, Canadian Atheist has used the Kippis theme for its look and feel… but it’s time for a change.

The Kippis theme hasn’t been updated since . It’s so old, it doesn’t even have a web site anymore. It was once cutting edge, but technology has moved on; the theme doesn’t have any mobile support to speak of, and lacks many of the features that really make the modern web work.

So it’s time to retire the Kippis theme and move on.

But… to what?

What I’m looking at

The theme I’m currently looking at is called Iconic One. It’s a modern theme, and very much still supported—at the time of writing, the most recent update is just over two weeks old.

If/when I change to this theme, you will, of course, notice a massive change in Canadian Atheist’s appearance… but if you use mobile devices or tablets, you will also notice that the site will work so much better with smaller screen devices and touch screens.

I am not married to this theme choice, so if you know of any other alternatives that might be better, let me know! (If you are a theme developer yourself, please go ahead and offer your theme as a suggestion!)

Heads up!

Within the next few weeks, I will switch Canadian Atheist to the Iconic One theme… and possibly other themes… on a trial basis.

The look of the site will change drastically as I tool around with the theme settings, so be prepared for that. Things will move around, and some things may break (if you find any breakage, let me know!). I will make a post each time I switch the theme, where you can give feedback if you like.

And ultimately, I will settle on a new theme—we can’t keep using Kippis forever—so at some point, things will settle, but there will be a change.

Thank the gods! I was going to email you saying you really need to change the theme. The thumbnail makes it look like a good base theme so I have no problem with testing that one, or any other one.

Yeah, it’s definitely long overdue. 😬

The new theme is currently live, so let me know if you see any issues.
