Oh dear, a woman was fined after feeding deer in her backyard

Despite receiving repeated warnings, Jeannie Samad

claims in her defense that she has been feeding the deer because they lacked a proper food source since winter began.

According to The Weather Network,

The Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources discourages feeding wild animals, claiming it disrupts their natural foraging patterns and exposes them to greater risk from disease, predation and vehicle collisions.

Feeding deer is specifically discouraged due to the threat of Lyme disease, which is commonly spread to people by deer ticks.

If you’re trying to illustrate a point, I can’t tell what point that is. I’ve lived rurally and animal/people separation is totally a good thing. The woman should have been fined. I’m glad she was. I hope she stops feeding the deer, or decides to go and live with them. I’d prefer the former. So would the deer. And her.

Does the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources also block the sale of birdfeed? These “class” distinctions are getting to be a real concern.

Is it fair “game” to feed them if they come into the city?

N.B. – in the spirit of the “just for fun” tag
