Google Doodle celebrates International Women’s Day:

IWD’s homepage includes a quote from the American Humanist Association’s 2012 Humanist of the Year, Gloria Steinem

The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.

Canadian Atheist celebrates IWD with some words from Virginia Woolf: A Room of One’s Own:

The history of men’s opposition to women’s emancipation is more interesting perhaps than the story of that emancipation itself.

Here are some interesting and nasty cartoons against suffragettes that seem appropriate today as does, in contrast to these cartoons, Mary Wollstonecraft’s quote from A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, 1792 where she speaks about women having power over themselves:

‘Educate women like men,’ says Rousseau, ‘and the more they resemble our sex the less power will they have over us.’ This is the very point I aim at. I do not wish them to have power over men; but over themselves.
