Hambuger Helper

by | October 31, 2014

Ever since Betty Crocker introduced Hamburger Helper in 1971, the eating public has been persuaded the hamburger needs help. Now, Shant Mardirosian, a graduate of  Tyndale University College & Seminary, has taken helping the hamburger to another level: The Burger’s Priest: Redeeming the Burger, One at a Time. The Burger’s Priest is a cheeseburger restaurant in Toronto with a cheesy reason for not advertising: Genesis 1-11.  According to Mardirosian,

“Genesis 1-11 is this story of God creating, man messing up, and the second they mess up, they try to make themselves good again. It comes to its climax at the Tower of Babel where they say, ‘let us make names for ourselves.’ After that you have God saying to Abraham, ‘I’m going to make your name great.’…God makes names great and we don’t.”

That sounds so “pretentious”!  More pretentious is Burger’s Priest’s “Gospel”:

The Gospel is that God Himself has come to rescue and renew creation through the work and in the work of Jesus Christ on our behalf.

Most pretentious is the suggestion that the cheeseburgers come with a side order of God and Jesus Christ.

The Burger’s Priest website provides links to videos by Village Church:

If you want to explore more about Jesus or have some questions about Him and/or Christianity, below are some great links to some really good lectures on some very tough questions

Burger’s Priest’s marketing strategy may be unpalatable, but the company is accumulating profits one lucre at a time.

Do these burgers come “Pre-Blessed”? If you could get a glass of wine with it, it would be the complete communion experience. Now I feel like burgers, thanks. 🙂

Our Lord and Saviour did say “blessed are the cheesemakers”. Perhaps it’s not such a big stretch to imagine that makers of cheeseburgers might be blessed as well.
