New Republic’s Article: Ireland Abortion Case Reveals Draconian Horror of Catholic Law

by | August 20, 2014

The New Republic has published Jerry Coyne’s article about an Irish refugee forced to carry the fetus of her rapist called, Ireland Abortion Case Reveals Draconian Horror of Catholic Law. You may remember that Jerry Coyne writes at his own site, Why Evolution Is True and wrote a book by the same name.

Take the time to read through this article as it is very thoughtfully written and worth your time. The comments following it though – kind of a mixed bag.

Thank you Diana for posting this. Here is the comment I left on Coyne’s website in response to Eric MacDonald’s comment at tinyurl.com/n5osl8t

“Eric MacDonald says “Perhaps some human rights lawyer would be willing to take both the Vatican and the Irish government before the European Court of Human Rights pro bono, to make this point.”

That’s a pipe dream. Read Michael D’Antonio’s Mortal Sins: Sex, Crime and The Era of Catholic Scandal to find out what happens to anyone who takes on the Catholic Church for a fee or pro bono.

A discussion of D’Antonio’s book can be found at http://americamagazine.org/content/all-things/readings-mortal-sins

It’s not a Catholic law it’s a law. If not killing people is a Catholic thing then show me where I sign up.
